Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026What we collect and why
We collect only what is necessary to operate the newsletter.
- Email address — collected when you subscribe. Used to deliver issues and send preference-related notifications (e.g., confirming a gravestone submission went up).
- Reading preferences — complexity level, topic interests, and email theme. Collected at subscription and stored to personalise your issues.
- Feedback messages — submitted voluntarily via the feedback form. May include an email address if you choose to provide one. Stored for editorial review.
- Obituary submissions — theory name, field, context, and optionally your name and email. Stored for editorial review and to notify you if the submission is published.
- IP address — used transiently for rate-limiting obituary submissions (maximum 3 per IP per 24 hours). The count resets automatically; IP addresses are not retained beyond this window for any other purpose.
What we do not collect
Data processors
We use the following third-party services to operate Sighnce. Each processes data only as instructed and is bound by their own data processing agreements.
| Service | Role | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database storage | Email, preferences, feedback, obituary submissions |
| Resend | Email delivery | Email address, rendered newsletter content |
| Anthropic | Article summarisation and content generation | Article abstracts and titles only — no subscriber data |
| Bunny Fonts | Font delivery (GDPR-compliant CDN) | IP address (not logged per their privacy policy) |
| Sentry (optional) | Error monitoring | Error stack traces and request metadata — only if configured by the operator |
| Stripe | Donation processing | Only if you choose to donate — handled entirely on Stripe's infrastructure |
Retention
- Subscriber data — retained until you unsubscribe. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or contact us to request deletion.
- Feedback and obituary submissions — retained indefinitely for editorial use. Contact us to request removal of a specific submission.
- IP rate-limit records — reset automatically every 24 hours.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with applicable data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data — for subscribers, the unsubscribe link in any email handles this immediately
- Restrict or object to processing
- Port your data to another service
- Complain to your local supervisory authority if you believe your rights have been violated
To exercise any of these rights, use the feedback form on this site or email us directly.
Legal basis (GDPR)
We process subscriber data on the basis of consent — you provide explicit agreement when subscribing. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing. Feedback and obituary submissions are processed on the basis of legitimate interest in improving the publication and responding to user contributions.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if our practices change. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision. We will not materially change how we process subscriber email without notifying subscribers directly.
Questions about this policy or requests to exercise your rights: use the feedback form on the homepage or email hello@sighnce.com.
